SPRING GLEN CHURCH WOMEN

Mission Statement
Spring Glen Church Women’s role is a long and varied one, filled with hope, love, promise and possibility. Our focus, and tradition, is one of outreach to women in the Life of the Church. We endeavor to stimulate women’s spiritual growth and awaken an extended spiritual conscience through introducing women to a world beyond Spring Glen, and their own everyday lives. The rich, varied and generous dedication of women in our Congregation supports SGCW, and we welcome men and women alike to our programs at Spring Glen Church.

Fellowship, Fun and Education
Spring Glen Church Women gather the third Tuesday of each month, September to May, at the Church to share fellowship, reflection, personal growth, and to present speakers and books to share their curiosity and expertise on a wide range of topics pertinent to women and our changing role in society.

SGCW is connected to the larger Christian community through our participation in local and State activities of the CT Women of the UCC and the ecumenical Church Women United.
Pastor Nancy Strickland leads a women's retreat in the spring.

Fundraising
SGCW raises money to support Outreach Programs with our bake sales, and our December SGCW Craft and Art Show to support SERRV and Sister Cities crafters. Proceeds from our fundraising projects go to the UCC Silver Lake Conference Center, St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen, Hamden Fuel Bank, Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, and Spring Glen’s own Meals~to~Heal program.

Service and Support
The Memorial Reception Committee provides support and refreshment to families attending Memorial Services at SG, by offering sustenance and comfort to grieving families and their friends.

MEN'S LUNCHEON
Men’s Luncheon meets on the first Tuesday of the month (September through June) at 12:00 noon at the Playwright Restaurant in Hamden. Reading material, usually a magazine article, is mailed a few days ahead of time and is the topic of lively discussion led by Pastor Andy.  To be added to the Men’s Luncheon mailing list, please contact the office.

PROGRESSIVE DINNERS
Each winter everyone is invited to a Progressive Dinner when small groups of diners rotate among host homes for hors' doeuvres, soup/salads and entrees.  Then everyone meets in the Great Hall at church for dessert. For more information contact Carolyn Paul.

CHURCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE EVERY SPRING
Who's on 1st? You can be on 2nd!  Spring Glen Church participates in a Church Softball League that plays on Sundays in the spring.  Practice time - 5 p.m.    Games - 6 p.m.  Location: Booksvale Park or Cheshire High School Field. For more information contact Chuck Paul.

OPEN DOOR
Open Door was founded in 1970.  Out of Christian concern for our neighbors, the "Open Door" welcomes older members of the community of all faiths to get together in fellowship at Spring Glen Church.  We meet at 12:15 on the 1st Wednesday from September to May with members enjoying a luncheon and a program.  Lunch costs $4.00.  The entree is a catered casserole; salads and desserts are provided by members who also serve and clean up.  Each member provides two salads and/or desserts per year.  Come along and bring a neighbor!  We love to make new friends!
